The Hidden Seabed
It has been eleven years since the Richborough cooling towers were demolished. Very few went down to Kingsdown beach that Sunday morning, it seemed many had gone to see the tower's demise. The sound of the explosion echoed over the bay. Discussing the tide with a gentleman I met, he said it was the lowest he had seen it for 20 years, explaining the high pressure had caused the spring tide to go out further than predicted. What is normally seen as a pebble beach with chalk beds at Kingsdown in Kent, opened up as a vast area of sand, it was magical.
Pools Full of Sky
It always makes me stop in my tracks when I come across a pool full of sky, not only because I would get my feet wet and the illusion would vanish but because I love the idea of having the sky at my feet, imagining I could just step out and walk on air, so near yet so far.
Incognito
You never know what you are going to find as you amble along. Well, imagine my surprise to find the moon not where it should be, up in the sky but trying to be incognito on the ground. I guess we all deserve a rest day.
Cauldrons of the Bay
These 'Cauldrons' are often found in Kingsdown bay, when they have finished bubbling they can leave behind imprints of what they have been creating. If you disturb them by standing in them your feet will sink into the sand. It is a bit of a shock when your foot suddenly disappears as you are walking along, a tug usually releases the foot (albeit now wet and slimy). Whilst most of the time they are pretty harmless creating some unusual art, on Halloween they like to have a little bit of fun.
